Situated on the west side of Hampton river, about a mile from its entrance into Hampton roads. It contains a court house, jail, 4 churches, 2 Methodist, 1 Baptist, and 1 Episcopal, 16 stores, 2 castor oil factories, 150 dwellings, and about 1,200 inhabitants.
